How to choose jewellery

Some common sense tips

Buying jewellery is a lot like buying shoes (just more fun!).

Would you go hiking in high heels? Of course not. You will buy a sturdy pair of hiking boots. Going to a smart function in tennis shoes? No, definitely not.

The same principles apply when shopping for jewellery. A delicate silver ring set with small stones will not survive a camping trip, but will look stunning paired with the right outfit for an evening out on the town. As per our previous post, it is important to remember that sterling silver is a soft metal, not prone to survive adventurous outings.

This not only applies to rings, but pendants, earrings and bracelets as well. If a day at the beach is your happy place, keep in mind that precious stones do not like being in the ocean or covered with suntan lotion. Rather wear something plain that can be cleaned easily.

You don’t have to own a lot of jewellery, but make sure that you have pieces for every day wear, pieces for going on holiday with and a few pieces that will get you noticed at special occasions.
